All participants will be receiving an email during the week of January 23 – February 2 confirming your class assignment, an invoice (for the remaining registration balance, kit fees and any other items you have ordered) and an information letter giving more specific details- including a map of UVic - of your arrival and survival at UVic.

We have just recently been informed by the University that a major 5-year renovation/construction project will be starting this spring. It will affect the older residences (Craigdarroch “hotel” is closed at the end of January) and the area around the Craigdarroch Office Building and the Cadboro Commons Building – but hopefully in a minimal way.

UVic has finally released the housing prices for group conference events for the coming year. Complete descriptions of the housing types can be found on the UVic website and bookings can now be made through the same website. These rates are per night, per room and include taxes (GST, PST and MRDT).

Dormitory Residences – are situated right beside the Housing and Conference Services Center – these have been booked for our use. These residences offer accommodation with single dorm rooms; these rooms have single beds and dresser. Enjoy a common lounge on each floor of the dorm with comfortable seating, microwave, TV and internet access.
Cluster Housing – Four-bedroom (single bed, desk and dresser in each locked bedroom) cluster units are also available. These are fully furnished apartments with a full kitchen, living and dining areas, two bathrooms, one shower and internet access. Dishes and kitchen supplies can be included for an extra fee (deluxe cluster unit). Book early if you want a cluster unit.
Accessible accommodation is available in the tower dorm residence.

When guests use this portal, it will register them into the UVic system. Housing services will then email them back with instructions on how to pay (they can pay in-full on the portal once the university provides them with a username + password, or call in and pay us a deposit for their accommodation with the remaining balance due at check-in). Once you’ve registered on the portal, it’ll be a few days before we email you back with your payment credentials.
The portal is now open for business.
Meals can be paid for as you go or with a non-refundable dining card that can be purchased when you check in. Our Seminar does extend into the long May weekend, so the food service may be limited on the weekend. Our meals and most events (other than classes) will be held in the Cadboro Commons Building, next to the residences and the conference services building. Classes will be a 5-10 minutes walk from the residences to the Clearihue building.

Off campus accommodation and dining is available in Victoria. The university is about a 20-minute drive from downtown. Taxi fares to downtown could average about $25, but a very efficient local bus service, BC Transit, connects the university with the downtown area.

There are several local suppliers of rental mobility scooters. The average price is currently $100/week with a small delivery charge.
The University of Victoria is situated above Cadboro Bay overlooking the Haro Strait. It is approximately 20 minutes from downtown Victoria.
Air The university is approximately 25 minutes from the Victoria International Airport. Taxi fares from the airport to the university are approximately $65 one way. Further details of this service will be included with the confirmation package in March 2019.
Ferry: The ferry terminal at Swartz Bay (from Tsawwassen/Vancouver, B.C.) is about 35 minutes from the university by car. Taxi fares from the ferry terminal would be approximately $70. The regular city bus (route #70 south then transfer to route #26 east) would bring you directly to UVic, but it takes about 1.5 hours and the cost is $2.50 (Adult).

Parking: For those bringing their car, parking charges do apply. Current parking is $8 per day and $32 per week. You will be parking in Lot #5 which is off Sinclair Road (McKenzie Avenue becomes Sinclair Road)
