Shockwave is a beginner canvaswork piece designed to showcase interesting techniques such as bargello, a layered board, crescent petal flower clusters, and a variety of canvaswork stitches. Each corner is different so a lot of stitches are covered. The stitches for this piece fall into the five main categories of straight, diagonal, cross, tied and looped, and decorative. You will pick a colour of Caron Watercolours, and then pull colours from this thread to build your colour palette using No. 5 Perle Cotton. Metallics are used as an accent. The course is divided into six lessons.

This piece was inspired by the large stained glass windows in the Great Room of the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park.  This is my interpretation of one of those windows.  A colour palette of burgundy and blue was used, but students are encouraged to pick their own colour palettes. The piece is embellished with pearls.

Ahwahnee is a sampler of layered stitches, intricate borders, string art stitches such as 8-Point Star, Double Fan, Sprat's Head, Crescent Wave and Chilly Hollow designed to have you thinking outside the box.  This isn't your grandmother's needlepoint!

Guideline for Student Levels

Beginners are those who need guidance in reading stitch patterns or who are new to the technique.

Intermediate students understand stitch patterns but may need guidance; have taken this technique or similar one at the beginner or basic level; have a beginning understanding of colour and design.

Advanced students read charts and stitch diagrams with ease, have a good understanding of stitch technique; have good understanding of colour and design. Must have taken an intermediate level course in the technique. Must be able to work independently.
